Chris Otten received his MFA from the University of South Florida in 2011. Chris is an Oklahoma native and descendant of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma. His work has been exhibited nationally, including museums and galleries in Long Beach, Minneapolis, Annapolis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Tallahassee, Gainesville, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. Chris is an Instructor of Record in Photography and Digital Imaging at the University of South Florida, and an Adjunct Professor of Photography at the Art Institute of Tampa. Infinite Editions printed and mounted Otten's intriguing thesis work that comments upon cultural identity, and in particular, American Indian identity.
"This body of work comments on the American Indian’s resistance to submission and dominance...Questioning the idea of assimilation... I question the universality of cultural identity and how disconnection/displacement from our descendants can lend us the will of reawakening vibrant histories that act as founding structures to our familial culture" (Chris Otten)
Infinite Editions printed Chris Otten's MFA thesis artwork on fine art water color paper, spray varnished the prints, and mounted them on aluminum leaving a quarter inch reveal. This presentation allows the viewers of the work to be unaffected by the reflection of glass, and seduced by the saturation of color. Chris chose this presentation for its high impact and visibility.
