Teresa Ollila
Teresa Ollila creates fine art photography using a verity of camera techniques and styles. She was also the recipient of the Global Grand Prize Award "Inspired by Diabetes" Competition in 2008.
"In 1992 I graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in fine art photography and worked in the field for some time. A few years later, I returned to school at Regis University in Colorado to complete a degree in nursing. As a nurse, I worked both in Newborn Intensive Care and Labor and Delivery.
This experience would prove invaluable when, at the age of three, my son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. My husband and I were thrust into a scary and altogether unfamiliar world of concern where constant vigilance is required simply to go on living; through researching and dialogue with our community, the result is the project...."A Lifetime of Diabetes". These photographs portray the daily trials of those living with Type 1 Diabetes. My personal experience with this disease has inspired me to join my interest in art with my medical background in an on-going effort to help shed light on this incurable illness to an extent that few outside the diabetic community are aware of.
In addition, I continue to pursue personal photography projects including recent work of outdoor portraits combining people witihin the landscape. I continue to exhibit in the fine art community and look forward to more exhibitions."- Teresa Ollila
